West Zone's Unbeaten Season Sees Them Win Championship
The West Zone cricket team has won the zonal championship after an impressive unbeaten season. The team played six matches, winning five and drawing one. They finished with 26 points, six points ahead of the second-placed Central Zone team, in a tournament played in Nagpur, India, in December 2023.
West Zone Dominate From the Start
West Zone started their campaign with a comfortable eight-wicket win over East Zone. They then followed it up with a hard-fought draw against South Zone. In their third match, they thrashed North Zone by 10 wickets. West Zone continued their winning ways with a five-wicket win over Central Zone. They then rounded off their league campaign with a seven-wicket win over East Zone.
Key Players for West Zone
Several key players contributed to West Zone's success. Opener Prithvi Shaw was in excellent form, scoring three fifties and a hundred. Middle-order batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal also chipped in with some important runs. The bowling attack was led by left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar, who took 10 wickets in the tournament.
Central Zone Fall Short
Central Zone had a disappointing campaign, finishing second with 20 points. They started with a four-wicket win over North Zone but then lost to West Zone by five wickets. They recovered with a seven-wicket win over South Zone but then lost to East Zone by six wickets. Central Zone finished their campaign with a draw against North Zone.
What's Next for West Zone?
West Zone will now represent the region in the national championship. They will be looking to add to their tally of 10 national titles. Central Zone will also be in the national championship, but they will be looking to improve on their recent record of reaching the semi-finals just once in the last five years.
